ERNEST LEE SINGLETARY Feb. 26, 1928 - Nov. 9, 2006 Ernest Lee Singletary, 78, of Madisonville died Thur-sday, Nov. 09, 2006, in Madison St. Joseph Health Center in Madisonville. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony McCollum officiating. Burial was in the Madisonville City Cemetery. The family received visitors from 6 - 8 p.m. Nov. 11 at the funeral home. Ernest Lee Singletary was born in Iola on Feb. 26, 1928. His parents were William and Mable Singletary, who preceded him in death, as well as his brothers Robert T. and George N. Singletary, also his granddaughter Caden Single-tary. Ernest graduated from Iola High School and joined the army at 17 and served in the U.S. Cavalry in Italy. Finishing his tour of duty. he moved to Navasota and worked for Gulf States Utilities (Entergy) for 42 years. The last 12 years he was supertendent in the Madison-ville office. Ernest was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served as Chairman of the Trustees for several years. After retiring Ernest started doing what he most enjoyed, tending to his cows, raising horses and teaching his grandchildren to ride. He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Go Texan Committee and also a lifetime member of the Madison County Fair Association. He served on the Board of the Oak Ridge Country Club, and was a charter member of the VFW post 4006 in Navasota. Survivors are his wife Sandra his son Todd and Todd's mother, Janyce Singletary, and her daughter Marsha (Prissy) Crenshaw of Navasota; stepchildren Du-ane (Mittye) Standley Jim (Susan) Standley and Ann (Trae) Poe, all of Madison-ville; sister Clara Mae Singletary of Houston; ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
