The eighth-grade A Colts lost a heartbreaker last Thursday, falling short to Mexia by a 16-14 final.

The Colts struck first as quarterback Dalton McVey found Sterling Johnson on a 30-yard strike. McVey then found Ladarion Byrd for the conversion to push the Colts on top, 8-0.

The Colts held the lead until late in the third quarter when the Blackcats tied it up, 8-8.

The ‘Cats struck again in the fourth period to go ahead, 16-8, but the Colts battled back when McVey scrampered in from 56 yards out. The conversion failed, but the Colts didn't give up, driving down to the ‘Cat six as the game ended with Mexia ahead, 16-14.

The A finished 3-6 for the year with every game within their grasp.

“These young Colts made great improvement during the year,” said Coach Randy Walker.

Members of the A squad are Anthony Molina, Ladarion Byrd, Zach Hogue, Martin Craig, Zach Waters, Brandon Curtis, Dalton McVey, Terrance Livingston, Bobby Wakefield, Asa Morgan, Alfonzo Guevara, Sterling Johnson, Michael Hobbs, Chris Faw, James Steindl, Jimmy Turner, Osmar Hinojosa, Nick Parker, Ivan Parga, Kasyn Hagaman, Jordan Sandles, Scott Thomas and Adrian Smith.
