City, school board election slates full following deadline The deadline has passed for candidates seeking a position in the upcoming city and school board elections. Monday, March 12 - exactly two months prior to the election date - was the last day that hopefuls had to toss their hats into the ring. Don Dean is running unopposed for the one-year unexpired term for mayor, and several have stepped forward seeking a seat on the city council and MCISD and Midway school boards. Obie Harrison, Jr., Debra Drake, Lois Brown, Terry Don Rogers, Fredrick Randel, Dave Ward, Marvin Stanton and Donny Myrick have filed for the Madisonville City Council. As Temporary City Manager Ruth Smith said, “the three people with the highest votes win.” Madisonville CISD had several people step forward seeking a seat on the school board. David Stiver has filed to fill the unexpired term of Charles Bristow (Place 6). Obie Harrison, Jr. had also filed for that spot, but state law prohibits a person from holding dual officeship. Harrison, in a letter to the district dated March 8, formally withdrew his candidacy. Incumbent Todd Faries has filed for re-election to Place 4 along with Minor Kennard and Bruce Corbell. William Parten, Latreace Craig and Greg McBee are seeking election to Place 3 - the seat currently held by Ray Brown. Midway Mayor Patrick Wakefield said on Tuesday that Midway will forego an election since all candidates are running unopposed. Incumbents Macel Jeffries, William West and Cecil Starns will maintain their posts. North Zulch administrators said their school board members' terms have been extended through November, when the municipal elections will be held. Residents have until April 12 to register to vote in the May election. Early voting begins in person on April 30 and ends May 8. Polls will be open on May 12 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
