Bedias News by Sandra Stapleton

With October rapidly approaching, it must be time to get ready for the Bedias Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry and Auction. The date is Saturday, Oct. 20, and raffle tickets are currently on sale for $1 each or six for $5. The raffle items this year are a 32-inch digital stereo LD-HDTV donated by St. Joseph EMS; a chain saw donated by Coufal-Prater Equipment in Bryan; a king-size afghan donated by Jim and Lou Lindsay; and a 20 gauge shotgun with a case of shells donated by Green & Associates Realtors of Bedias, (all applicable gun laws apply). Tickets are available from any fireman. As always, there will be lots of items to be auctioned. Serving will start at 4 p.m., and the auction will start at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome. It takes a lot to keep the fire department supplied with all the equipment they need, and this is the only fundraiser they have each year. Make plans to come out and support this worthy cause. They are always there when they are called on, and they deserve our support.

The Bedias Civic Club will have a little different format in October. Bedias area residents are invited to a night a fun on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. Instead of the usual pot luck supper, the Bedias Civic Club will provide baked potatoes and fixins' for everyone followed by dessert and games.

The Bedias Women's Club will present a Fashion Show Luncheon at noon on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Bedias Civic Center. Fashions will be provided by the Arbor Boutique, with jewelry and accessories provided by Silly Chix, both of Madisonville. Lots of door prizes will be given away during the event. Tickets are $6 in advance or $8 at the door. Call Kathy Harris at 936-395-2537 or Nicki Thomson at 936-395-8045 for more information.

Have you seen the new signs at the Bedias United Methodist Church? They look great and were provided by Pastor Gary Westbrook. In the very near future, there will be a new parking lot and a new roof on the church and food pantry. Everyone is invited to come and visit. I appreciate the messages on the sign at the Bedias Baptist Church. It gives you something to think about each time you pass by.

Clinton Cook and Wendell Murphy celebrated their birthdays on Sept. 24. Hellene Self, Meagan Ghormley and Brittany Hawthorn celebrated Sept. 25. Margie Jackson, Jerry Goodman and Annette Karber celebrate Sept. 26. James Bracewell, Norman Bracewell, Joe Brown, Jenna Wells and Bob Johnson celebrate Sept. 27, and Mark Reider on Sept. 28. Best wishes to all of you for a wonderful day and a blessed year.

Please continue to pray for the family of Bobby Twitty, Mort Thomson, Nathalie Baldwin, Jack Mallard, Chloe Elizabeth Parker, Billy Plotts, and Robert Jackson as well as others in our community who have special needs and health problems. Please continue to pray for our community, our country and especially our military and their families.
