Former Midway postal worker indicted by Dave Lewis with The Meteor

What began as a promising career for a bright, young Madisonville woman has apparently spiraled downward after her indictment on felony theft charges by a Madison County grand jury.

Following more than a year of investigation by the U.S. Office of the Inspector General, Terri Lynn Jenkins, also known as Terri Lynn Davis, 43, of Navasota, was indicted Oct. 25, 2007, for mishandling as much as $20,000 in currency while employed by the U.S. Postal Service.

Davis was relieved of her duties in Midway in early November 2006. Since then, U.S. Postal Service officials have declined to comment on the reason, stating only that the case was under investigation.

According to the grand jury indictment, while working in Madison County, Davis “did then and there, pursuant to one scheme or continuing course of conduct that began on or about Aug. 16, 2005, and continued until on or about Oct. 17, 2006, unlawfully appropriate, by acquiring or otherwise exercising control over property, to-wit: U.S. Currency, from U.S. Postal Service, the owner thereof, with intent to deprive the owner of the property, and the aggregate value of the property obtained was $20,000 or more but less than $100,000.”

Madison County authorities have not yet served the arrest warrant they have for her, but have ascertained her last known address was in Navasota.

“The case has not been set for trial yet because she has not been served yet,” said District Court Clerk Joyce Batson Thursday, Dec. 27.

According to an article published in The Meteor on Oct. 12, 2005, Davis, who graduated from Madisonville High School in 1982, began her postal career in 1991 after attending Sam Houston State University. According to the article, she graduated from The Woodlands Paralegal Institution in 1988.

She worked at post offices in Normangee, Houston, Pasadena, Madisonville and Bedias before going to Midway.

Davis is the daughter of Madisonville city council member Lois Brown and the wife of Bishop Harry Davis, former pastor of Greater First Baptist Church in Anderson.

During the past year, the Davises operated Serendipity's, a sandwich shop in Navasota, but according to signs posted on the door of that business, it was closed because of $2,050 owed in past due rent, deposits and other fees that had not been paid.

Davis was among 43 persons indicted during the July 2007 session of the grand jury, which concluded on Dec. 20.

By far the largest number of charges in a single indictment belonged to 29-year-old Lakeysha Faye Allen. According to the indictment, between Nov. 30, 2006, and Jan. 13, 2007, in 38 separate instances, Allen unlawfully appropriated more than $1,500 in currency, groceries, gasoline, a cellular telephone, pre-paid air time, electronics, beauty products and two manicures “pursuant to one scheme and continuing course of conduct” by passing checks on an account with insufficient funds to cover them.
