Stay in school

I would like to encourage kids to stay in school, by any means. There is no greater joy than to stick it out for 12 years, and then say, “I did it!”

I graduated from Booker T. Washington (Colored) High School in May of 1966 in Elgin, Texas. It was hard to stay in school. I had six brothers and two sisters. They all dropped out. I was my parents' last hope to have a kid who graduated high school. That was my incentive to stay in school. I was, and still am, glad that I finished.

Some kids today are taking the easy way out, the GED. But, it is not the same. Put forth the effort to stay in school.
