Normangee football named the Army Strong Team of the Year

The Normangee Panthers football team have proven to be strong, Army-strong.

Dave Campbell's Texas Football recently announced that Normangee High School was named the Army Strong Team of the Year for Class A.

The Panthers were chosen for this honor because of their commitment to loyalty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, personal courage and teamwork.

“The Panthers exemplified the values that we were looking for in our Team of the Year winners,” said Adam Hochfelder, the executive director of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. “They truly know the meaning of things like courage and teamwork.”

The award was presented to the team on Monday, May 12, in the Normangee school cafeteria.

“The U.S. Army is very proud of the student athletes at Normangee, who demonstrate many of the qualities exhibited within the Army, like leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as a member of a team,” said Captain Damon Walker, Austin Recruiting Company Commander.

The U.S. Army supports high school athletes through programs like Army Strong Team of the Year and the Texas Football Classic. The Army also is the sponsor of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which is considering Mustang Chris Whaley for participation. The game is held each January in San Antonio's Alamodome and showcases 80 elite high school athletes, many of whom will go on to play at the collegiate and professional levels. Dave Campbell's Texas Football is owned and operated by IMG. The magazine is an annual publication that previews high school, college and professional football teams in the state of Texas. It includes approximately 1,300 high schools in the state.
