Friends and family gathered at the country club in Madisonville to celebrate at the birthday party for Brian Risinger who turned 40. A great meal and an “Over the Hill” cake were enjoyed by all. Yvonne Rigby Rampmeire was in for the party, and she is looking good!

Susan McCourt celebrated her birthday with a pizza dinner on Sunday after church.

The fundraising concert held at the Bedias Museum and Library was a huge success, Thanks to all who made it happen and to those who attended - it was a complete sell-out. Plans are being made now for next year; more on this later.

The 2008 Texas Division Reunion of the Sons of Confederate Veterans at Galveston was held June 6-7 at the Victorian Convention Center. With several hundred people attending, it was a success. Friday night's reception was held at the Strand Railroad Museum, where we enjoyed reading and seeing the station as it was in the 1920s, complete with statues of people from that era. There was also a walking tour that described the Battle of Galveston. If you're in Galveston, stop by the museum. I think you'll enjoy it, and all the trains you can go on. The Thomas Jewett Goree Camp 2129 won an award as a Four-Star Camp. Billy Surface won a Division Silver Cross Medal in recognition of exemplary service, and I won a Division Bronze Cross Medal in recognition of meritorious service. Robert Goldstein received his SCV life-member certificate. The Texas Society Order of Confederate Rose awarded life-member certificates to Robert and Debbie Goldstein, Pat Roberson, Caroline Stewart and Danis Surface. It was my honor to receive the first award for top sales from Texas Society Order of Confederate Rose Treasurer Cindy Bobbitt. Attending were Hazel Weidman, Robert and Debbie Goldstein, Caroline Stewart, Larry and Jerrod Sanders, and Billy and Danis Surface. This camp and chapter are not even a year old, and for them to receive an award is great. Special thanks to Glenda Turner, who worked so hard on the scrapbook. It was outstanding!

Happy birthday to Asa Surface, June 14; and Carolyn Coborn, June 16.

Happy anniversary to John and Janis Ruen, June 13.

Thoughts and prayers for Vivian Walker, who has been in the hospital, Connie Clements, Brother Jimmy Richie, Kathy Sanders, Annie Boullion, Eddie Ward, Linda Ortego, Ruth Kolbisinski, Ray Isgitt, Geneva Cole, Elsie Surface, Marguerite Ouzts, Harold and Linda Dudley, Bill and Ruthie Perry, Paul and Carolyn Coborn, the Cole, Stewart, Inman, and Moore families, our troops and everyone in need.
