Prayer on the Square Thursday

Roxanne McKnight with The Meteor

Lanier Stevens, pastor of North Madison Church of Christ, and Brad Brock, who has a prison ministry to area jails and prisons, remind readers that tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 7, is the day for “Prayer on the Square,” a short time of prayer for Madison County by people of all denominations starting at noon in front of the courthouse.

“We're not making a political statement,” said Stevens. “We're just seeking God's guidance and wisdom. We're doing this the first Thursday of every month until the elections.”

At least eight churches reflecting different denominations are involved in the event that calls for people throughout the community to meet in front of the Madison County Courthouse at noon for the 15- to 20-minute prayer service.

A similar prayer service was held on the National Day of Prayer the first Thursday of May. Those involved in the May service decided to have “prayer on the Square” on the first Thursday of each month.

“God's telephone number is Jeremiah 33:3,” said Brock. “He says, ‘Call upon me in your time of need, and I will show you great and mighty things.' There is power in corporate prayer. The walls of denomination are being broken down in Madisonville. People should take a few minutes, come down on their lunch hour and intercede to God on behalf of our county.”
