Christmas chorus, parade Saturday

Madisonville residents who pride themselves on celebrating Christmas the old-fashioned way will get off to a good start this Saturday with Christmas on the Square.

The Community Chorus will set the tone by singing in front of the Madison County Courthouse Saturday, Dec. 6, from 5:30 p.m. until the parade starts at 6 p.m. Night time parades are relatively rare, but they are the best venue for showing off all the Christmas lights on the floats that will appear to float through downtown MadisonÂ-ville.

The theme of the parade is “It’s a Cowboy Christmas,” appropriate for Madisonville’s agricultural setting. Bringing up the end of the parade will be Santa and Mrs. Claus riding Madisonville’s best fire truck. They will stop at the Truman Kimbro Center to meet the children and hear just what they should bring to each home in the county.

There will be complimentary treats courtesy of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, which is inviting everyone to attend.

For those wanting to get an early start, the Madison County Museum will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the same Saturday, Dec. 6.

For this holiday season, the Museum is exhibiting a collection of Nativity scenes loaned to it by local residents, including old, new, serious and whimsical designs.
