Mid South to hold annual food drive Dec. 10 will mark the 13th anniversary of the Food For Families Food Drive, which helps to stock the shelves of local food pantries and the Brazos Valley Food Bank, which provides support all through the year to the local pantries. Mid South Synergy will once again help host two satellite drop off sites: in Madisonville at the Truman Kimbro Center, and in Navasota at the Mid South Synergy office on Hwy. 6. According to Son-Shine OutÂ-reach Center Coordinator Rebecca Kellar, though their stock is supplemented by smaller food drives throughout the year by area churches and organizations, the December food drive is their mainstay. “We have enough to tide us through,” said Kellar, “but the main one we depend on is the big food drive in December put on by Mid South Synergy and KBTX.” Mid South Synergy takes pride in serving the Brazos Valley this way. “It gives Mid South Synergy great pleasure to partner with KBTX and the Brazos Valley Food Bank to fight hunger all across the Brazos Valley by helping to stock the shelves of the local pantries,” said a company representative. The food bank serves a seven-county region through its network of distribution partner pantries such as Christian Community Services, Navasota Manor, Iola Church of Christ, Bedias United Methodist Church and the new mobile food pantry in Madison County. “We are pleased to help continue efforts in raising awareness of hunger not just today during the holiday season but everyday throughout the year and expanding the focus of the food drive to regions outside of Brazos County,” said Mid South’s Jeff Murski. “As the community continues to grow, so does the need.” With continued community support, all of us involved collecting food for the less fortunate will be able to continue the vital mission of distributing food to the community through local pantries and the Brazos Valley FoodBank.” Last year the Brazos Valley Food Bank provided almost 250,000 pounds of food to Grimes and Madison counties through the partner agencies listed above. Through the use of satellite drives in Madisonville and Navasota, the company hopes to bring attention to the need that exists in those communities and to support those local pantries all through the year in their mission to distribute food for those who are hungry in that community. Promotion and education are their goals in the fight to end hunger. Every day someone goes hungry in the Brazos Valley. Mid South invites everyone in the community to help make a difference with a donation this year. The drop-off sites in both Madisonville and Navasota will be manned by Mid South and community volunteers from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information about how to contribute to the food drive or contribute after the event, contact the Brazos Valley Food Bank at 979-779-3663, or e-mail info@brazosfoodbank.org. Needed Items To ensure the health and safety of those who receive the food, the food bank cannot accept perishable or “homemade” items. The items of greatest need are: beans (canned or dried) canned meats (tuna, chicken, ham, etc.), cereal (all sizes), cereal bars, chili, coffee, diapers (child), fruits (canned), paper towel, toilet paper, peanut butter, rice, ravioli, pasta, soups, vegetables (canned).
