We are looking forward to our annual Christmas Pancake Breakfast, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and our Bedias Christmas Parade, at 6 p.m., Dec. 21, at the Bedias Civic Center, everyone welcome. Free children’s books will be offered at the Bedias Museum and Library directly after the pancake breakfast and the library will offer free punch and cookies to visitors after the parade, everyone welcome, donations welcome. more
We had a delightful time at the Bedias Baptist Church Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner last Tuesday evening and another wonderful Community Thanksgiving Dinner, on Thanksgiving Day, at the Shiloh (Pankey) Baptist Church. Saturday will mark the 78th anniversary of the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, which was followed by our country’s entry into World War II. I have heard from some folks that they have things to share regarding family and Pearl Harbor, and hopefully they will before next year. more

This week in the elementary library is the semi-annual book fair. With books perfect for pre-readers all the way through preteens, this is a great place to help your kids develop a love for reading. It is also great opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done for your kids and extended family! This is a fundraiser for the library and a great opportunity to support Iola Elementary. Kimbro served as a staff sergeant in the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 11th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. more

The Second Engineers Combat Battalion cleared mine fields, built bridges, repaired roads, and sometimes fought as the infantry. After many days on Omaha Beach, the attack continued to the south across France. During that time, Truman Kimbro’s C Company was attached to the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as part of Task Force “B” (Bravo). They rolled into Paris at the end of September, bivouacked briefly, and then continued the attack turned to the northeast and Belgium. more
