The annual Easter egg hunt at the Iola community center will be held Saturday, April 6th. This is a free event for children up to age nine and will be held from 5-6 p.m. Drinks and cookies will be served. more
Congratulations to hometown son Joshua Brown who has been accepted as the Director of Choral Activities at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Joshua is the son of Madisonville Glyna and Ray Brown. more
Rosa McWhorter Allphin, 95, died August 2, 2018, in Spring. She had lived in Madison County most of her life, so her funeral was held here and she was buried in High Prairie Cemetery. Though she was born in Leona, her family moved here when she was young. She was a homemaker most of her life, and she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church here. She was a member of Madison County Historical Commission. In 2009 she contributed four recipes for the Commission’s first cookbook, her own for garlic bread sticks and for old fashioned bread pudding plus a butterscotch brownie recipe and a coconut macaroon recipe from her mother, Corine McGill Wolfe (1896-1960). more
The Bedias Women’s Club will meet at 2 p.m., tomorrow, Thursday, March 28, at the Bedias Civic Center. Our March program will be a cooking demonstration by Mackie Bobo-White. All area women are encouraged to attend and participate in all women’s club activities. more
Evergreen Baptist Church will be having the annual dodgeball tournament April 13 at the Old Iola school gym. There will be two age groups playing, 13 years old and up and 5-12 years old. Each team will consist of five players. 5-12 will have a registration fee of $5 per player. Players 13 and up will have a registration fee of $10 each. Admission for all others is $1. Registration forms can be downloaded at or you can register at the door. Open to anyone interested in having some fun! All proceeds go toward sending students to church camp this summer. more
