Planning and Zoning held a public hearing Tuesday, Jan. 2, about rezoning properties north of Washington between N. McIver and N. May St. and south of E. Viser St. from Urban Single Family Residential District 2 (SF-2) to Manufactured Home Residential District (MH).

AUSTIN — Governor Greg Abbott, on Sunday, Jan. 7, directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to increase the readiness level of the Texas State Operations Center to Level II (Escalated Response) as the state prepares ahead of multiple weather threats over the next several days.

Madisonville City Council met Monday, Jan. 8, with an agenda that ranged from rezoning discussions to economic development plans for the city.

Texas City native Nancy Cahill found her love for horses at a very early age. Nancy’s father was a dentist, and her mother was a housewife. Neither had any riding knowledge. Nancy started out with English riding lessons in the greater Houston area.

Starting the new year, the Madisonville Police Department was dispatched to 204 South May St. on a robbery in progress at the VIP Smoke shop on Monday, Jan. 1, at 10:50 p.m.

In their final meeting of the year, held on Wednesday, Dec. 27, the Madison County Commissioners Court addressed three agenda items and paid the county bills.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Heart of Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross proudly presented Garrett Rider with an American Red Cross Lifesaving Award — Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action. The incident occurred on Jan. 3, 2023, when Garrett and his sister Kyndall were on the road.
