Madisonville High School trumpet player Devin Merchant has been selected for the Texas All-State Jazz Band. In an audition process that began with over 2000 applicants from across the state, Merchant is one of only four trumpets selected to perform in the band.

North Zulch Independent School District officials announced that the district received a rating of “A” for “Superior Achievement” under Texas’ School FIRST financial accountability rating system. The “Superior Achievement” rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of North Zulch ISD’s financial management and reporting system.

During the Veterans Day program, Burke Landry, a World War II veteran, receives a salute at Mustang Gym Friday, Nov. 10. In recognition of his service, Landry is presented with a United States Flag. The event also paid tribute to each branch of the army.

Madisonville Police Chief Herbert Gilbert addressed the City Council about work session item three, discussing the police take-home vehicle program at the start of the meeting on Monday, Nov. 13.

Retired teachers in Madison County and beyond are grateful that Proposition 9 was passed. Lorraine Coleman, a retired teacher in Madisonville and one of the Presidents of the Retired Teachers Association in our community, has said they feel supported.
