Speeding stop uncovers marijuana haul

Deputy Luke Harrison and Deputy John David Harris from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 45, finding upwards of 15 ounces of marijuana in the trunk of a vehicle.

The deputies observed the vehicle going 92 miles per hour, according to the press release, and finding probable cause, searched the vehicle and found 15.85 ounces of marijuana and an open bottle of alcohol.

MCISD shines in 2023 STARR despite testing changes

Madisonville Consolidated School District students have performed well on the 2023 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, surpassing the state average in 16 of the 20 tested subjects. Despite the absence of the traditional A-F campus and district rating due to a pending judicial ruling and decisions from the 88th legislature.

Devin Merchant delivered a performance at the Texas Music Educators Conference in San Antonio. Selected from over 2,000 applicants across the state, Merchant was one of only four trumpeters to earn a spot in the Texas All-State Jazz Band, showcasing his talent on Saturday, Feb.

Funding requests for 4-H

The Madison County Commissioners Court discussed and took action on items including funding requests, contracts, committee appointments, and resolutions on Tuesday, Feb. 13 The council reviewed a request for funding support for the Madisonville 4-H Camp. In attendance to speak to the commissioners were kids from the 4-H club asking for option 2 in their packet.
