Soccer to compete in Bi-District

The Madisonville soccer team earned a slot in the postseason with a fourth place district finish and will battle Kilgore in the Bi-District playoffs in Huntsville Thursday at 6:30 p.m. “We are just going to have to come out and play some good soccer, be mistake free and leave everything on the field,” said head coach Baltazar Reyes regarding the Bi-District matchup.

Mustang Track

Body
The Madisonville track program competed in the Eagle Relays at Woodville High School Thursday and showcased a second place finish on the varsity men’s side with 63 points behind first place Lumberton. Rayce Hudson was the division’s second Top Athlete with 19 individual points while Lorenzo Johnson was ninth with 12. The varsity women’s squad finished fifth overall with 49 points while the junior varsity men’s side fished third with 71 total points behind top-ranked Jasper and Woodville. Tennis shines in Taylor

The Madisonville varsity tennis team competed in a tournament in Taylor last week and received top results from a number of competitors. The varsity finishers for the Mustangs read as follows: 1st place Mixed Doubles A-Elizabeth Guevara/ Mason Railsback; 1st place Girls Doubles A-Chais DiSanto/Jenna Yeager; 1st place Boys Doubles A-Steven Payan/Leonel Zavala; 2nd place Boys Singles A-Caymen Forrest; 2nd place Boys Singles B-Levi Lovell; 2nd place Girls Singles B-Laynie Nelson; 2nd place Girls Doubles B-Galilea Camarena/McKenna Fraley; 3rd place Girls Singles A-Serena Powers; 5th place Consolation Winner Boys Doubles B-Avery Barker/Nathan Fleck; 5th place Consolation Winner Mixed Doubles B-Maegan Anderson/Eli Risinger.

March Madness

Madisonville’s own Tra’Dayja Smith was named Spalding MVP of the 2022 Hercules Tires Big South Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Sunday. Smith tallied 21 points and helped lead the Longwood Lancers by Campbell by a score of 86-47. The win will send Longwood to the Division 1 NCAA Tournament for the first time in their history.

Lady Stangs battle in Franklin

Body
The Madisonville softball team competed in a tournament in Franklin last week and split six matchups with wins over Burton, A&M Consolidated and Centerville and losses to Leon, Franklin and Navasota. The team battled through three games on Friday and three games on Saturday in their final tournament of the season. They were without the services of three players, including two starters, throughout Friday’s action.
