4 Madisonville FFA teams to compete for state titles

Madisonville High School’s FFA chapter has been busy winning banners this year and might take another state championship pattern this week.

On Nov. 13, Madisonville FFA teams competed in area-level contests at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches for a chance at state competition. Four of Madisonville’s district-winning teams placed first at area, which means they qualify for the state contests at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville Friday through Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 1.

“We were blessed with safe travels and good results,” said Lynita Foster, Madisonville FFA advisor. “Madisonville FFA did receive the sweepstakes award for best overall performance by a school at the area meet. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with these students and for the blessings God has given our students and us.”

The four state-qualifying groups of Madisonville FFA competitors include Madisonville’s public relations team, consisting of Tommy Joe Ozio, Savannah Chestnut, Ashley Smith and Sarah Bankhead. Bankhead moves ahead to state in the job interview contest as well.

Representing Madisonville in the state ag issues contest will be Claire Wiseman, Johnna Johnson, Adrianna Culbreth, Bethany Baker, Ben Schexnayder and Karleigh Howeth. On Saturday, Madisonville will be in the junior quiz contest with Glenda Martin, Brice Oliver, Jared Wiseman and Christian Arjon competing.

Madisonville FFA won the district championship in three other contests before competing at area. Among the district winners were Kacey Creel, Mason Jarrell, Blane Counsil and Hannah Cole, who placed third in the area-level senior skills competition. Chestnut was fifth in the area senior creed contest. Coming in fourth place in area junior chapter conducting was the team of Lydia Crowe, Clayton Frayly, Lacy Ketchum, Tacy Webb, Mason Terry, Katherine Jewel Smith, Robert Culbreth, Donyelle McVey and Kate Coleman.

In senior quiz competition, Casey Ogg, Conner Zachary, Maribel Garcia and Matthew Viggers placed second at district and sixth at area. The senior conducting team of Hannah Shirley, Adrianna Culbreth, Cody Culp, Ashley Smith, Ross Singletary, Don Roundtree and Connor McWhorter came in second at district and third at district.

Kayley Smith, Natalie Drake, Tatum Ebanez and Dustin Harkrider competed in the junior skills contest and finished second at district and fifth at area.
