Oct. 9, 1920 – Nov. 9, 2016
Annie Lee Grace Terrell was the only child born to Malcolm Grace and Armye Jones on Oct. 9, 1920. She was cherished and doted on by her grandmother Sarah Ellen Jones as a steady companion while she was growing up as her oldest granddaughter in Midway, Madison County, Texas.
Annie Lee grew up and attended school in Midway and Madisonville. She attended Prairie View State College (University) and graduated with a degree in education following a long-standing family tradition.
She taught school in Madisonville, Waco, Houston and ended her teaching career in Le Mar, Texas. Her career spanned more than 40 years, specializing in art and special education. Annie was so talented that she could turn a paper plate into a masterpiece and she made every student feel special.
Annie left Houston in 2010 to relocate to Riverside, Calif. She felt that her cousins Leo and G.C. “cramped her style,” so she went to a senior assisted living complex and she enjoyed the college-like dormitory life she never got to enjoy. She met many friend and was constantly surrounded by people on a daily basis, something that she enjoyed.
Annie’s health began to fail but she celebrated her 96th birthday with God’s blessing on Oct. 9 of this year. We were blessed to have so many wonderful, joyous years with Annie Lee. She brought us fun, laughter, always a smile and so much joy. Now it is time to rest, dear one, you have earned it. Thank you for the love you have shared with us for so very long. We know now that you’ll be helping to watch over us.
