Pony leagues host registration

Madisonville Pony youth leagues will host the spring baseball and softball registration on Saturdays through Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Walmart.

The last day to register will be March 2 at the league ballpark, and tryouts will follow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Costs are $65 per enrollee, and those aged 3 to 23 can participate.

Awareness program set

The RF Riders of Midway and NAACP Madisonville Chapter will co-host the 2019 Midway/Madisonville History Awareness Program on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Kimbro Center, 111 W. Trinity St.

Everyone is invited to the event, which is free. It will spotlight members of the Institution of Justice. Also, scholarships will be given to three deserving seniors that attend Madisonville High School.

The keynote speaker will be Texas State Conference NAACP President Gary Bledsoe.

The event opens with a social hour at 3 p.m. and the program begins at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Annual steak dinner set

Midway Volunteer Fire Department will hold the 27th annual Po Boy Steak Dinner and Dance fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 23, at the fire department.

The menu will be a 24-ounce T-bone with all the trimmings. Hospitality hour begins and 4:30 p.m., and dinner is served at 5 p.m.

A dance featuring the Al White Band will follow dinner.

Tickets are available at Lakeside Restaurant, Midway City Hall or from any MVFD member. Cost is $40.

Candidacy deadline near

The deadline for filing for candidacy for the FY 2019 Texas Silver Hair Legislature Election is Feb. 28.

Candidates must turn in forms 103, 104, 104.1 and 105 to the Brazos Valley Area Agency on Aging Office by that date.

If an election is needed in the Brazos Valley region, the date for that election would be on April 26. Forms and instructions on the TSHL Election can be found in the TSHL's Election Kit available at the BVAAA office, 3991 E. 29th St., in Bryan, or by calling (979) 595-2806 Ext 2032 or Ext 2020.

If the Brazos Valley region only has five candidates, the BVAAA does not need an election.
