Back to School: Administrators pleased with first day

Principals at the campuses throughout Madison County said the first day of school was a success.

“It was the best in years,” said Superintendent Keith Smith. “We were teaching on day one. I’m very happy.”

New Madisonville Junior High Principal Chad Moorhead spent Monday morning greeting parents and new students, and communicating with office staff by walkie-talkie.

“Everything went well,” Moorhead said Monday afternoon, as he was on his way to eighth grade volleyball tryouts. “We had a very successful first day.”

Rhodena Brooks, principal of the elementary school, echoed the sentiment, saying the first day went off without a hitch.

The Mustang football team goes on the road Friday night to play their season opener vs. Diboll, and will host the first home game of the season vs. Woodville on Sept. 2.
