The Mustang varsity band competed at Region UIL Marching competition at Midway High School in Waco on Oct. 22. The group received a First Division rating, qualifying them for Area competition.
This is only the 3rd time in Madisonville history that the band has qualified for Area marching competition, said Band Director Stephanie Schmidt.
During Area competition on Oct. 29, the band placed 19th out of 26 bands that qualified. Nearly 100 bands tried to make this rating at Region.
“This was the highest ranking we have ever gotten at Area,” Schmidt said. “The band has had a great competition season, winning two other competitions and qualifying for finals at the Sam Houston State Marching Festival as well.”
The director added that she’s pleased with the caliber of students in this year’s marching band.
“I am very proud of the hard work the band has put into our marching season this year,” Schmidt said. “We started out with the goal to make Area and they did it with pride. It has been a wonderful start to our school year. I can’t wait until the next time we have a chance to advance in two years.”
