Band students make impressive showing


The Mustang Marching Band took 42 events recently and came home with 29 first division and 12 second division awards.

Additionally, 14 out of 14 attempting to take state made the cut.

Band Director Stephanie Schmidt said she is very proud of each and every student who put in the time and effort to learn a solo and/or an ensemble.

The students who qualified for State are:

•Soloists: Kayla Guest, Justin Lane, Charlie Le, Glenda Martin, Jonathan Palomino, and Park Phillips

•Brass Ensemble: Christian Arjon, Jose Arjon, Peyton Blakeley, Justin Lane, Ian Morrow, Jonathan Palomino, Daniel Saldana and Kelcey Smith.

•Percussion Ensemble: Wilson Barker, Kayla Guest, Glenda Martin, Park Phillips, and Garet Rose.

Other soloists who received a First Division Medal include Odalys Almarez, Hollis Anderson, Jose Arjon, Austin Blair, Tanisha Debose, Mikayla Decker, Eduardo De la Trinidad, Jordan Garcia, Selena Garcia, Caitlyn Guy, Areli Ibarra, Ashlyn Johnson, Shelby Lane, Tiffany Lee, Gerardo Lopez, Morgan Manning, Luke Marshell, Wendy Neal, Diana Olivares, Courtney Ramirez and Kelcey Smith.

Soloists who received a Second Division rating include Monse Avilla-Chavez, Bree Black, Annie Chrane, Michael Cuevas. Nicko Dominguez, Daisy Escalante, Brandon Fultz, Derrick Harris, Brittany Jozwiak, Ian Morrow, April Roberts and Philip Welch.

Also, Schmidt said the Winterguard placed second at its first competition of the season at Dripping Springs High School recently, scoring higher than they have ever in the past.

The next competition is in Cedar Park on Feb. 20.
