It is homecoming week here in Iola. With that comes the spirit week for school. There is still wacky Wednesday, twin (or squad) Thursday, and Maroon Out Friday.
Saturday will be the Iola Fun Day, Events will begin at 8 a.m. with the 5k Bulldog Dash followed by the opening ceremony at 9 a.m. At 9:30 a.m., the parade will start. At 10 a.m. the flag presentation and national anthem will take place, games and vendors will open, as well as the silent auction. At 10:30 a.m. the Junior Aggie Wranglers will perform. At 10:45 a.m. the costume contest judging will take place, followed by gospel/country music by Shelby Williamson and Jamie Lowry. From noon through 2 p.m., Brice Woolard will perform country music.
•Please join us Saturday, Oct. 21, at 4:30 p.m. to help raise money for Easton Evans, son of Red and Emily Evans, who was injured in an ATV accident. The evening will begin at 4:30 with a Mallett Bros. barbecue dinner. Plates are $10 each (children 5 and younger are free). Dinner will be followed by a live auction and bucket pull auction. Meal tickets and bucket pull tickets can be purchased at the door the day of the event. This event will take place at Main Street Market.
•The Iola Bulldog Dash 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21, starting at 8 a.m. Registration will open at 7 a.m. at the Iola Fire Station. The fee is $25.
•Secondary Open House will be Oct. 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
•Homecoming bonfire will also be Oct. 19 starting at 8 p.m. at the football field.
•Junior varsity and varsity volleyball will host Kennard Oct. 20 with the first games at 4 p.m.
Football will play against Sabine Pass in Iola on Oct. 20. Game time is set for 7 p.m., Prior to the game will be senior night at the football field at 6:30. At 10:30, the homecoming dance will begin.
