It was a wild conclusion to a wild game, but after nearly surrendering away a win, North Zulch was able to dig in defensively to top the Panthers Tuesday night in Normangee, 61-42.
Gerhart Wiese led the Bulldogs with 28 points, 20 rebounds and seven blocks. Trey Crocker had 10 points and four steals, Michael Harris had nine points and eight rebounds and Cole Weaver had eight points and nine rebounds.
“It was a great win for the boys,” said Head Coach David Graves. “This win is the start of a three-team battle between us, Normangee and Iola for bragging rights for the ‘Battle of 39’ – so beating Normangee was big for us.”
The “Battle of 39” continued as the Bulldogs hosted Iola Friday night. North Zulch fell to Iola 48-27. Iola held North Zulch to 14 points in the first two quarters heading into intermission with a 28-14 lead. Iola continued its hot shooting outscoring North Zulch 20-13 in the second half.
The Bulldogs (14-10) will be on the road Friday in Somerville.
