ROUND TOP — The North Zulch Bulldogs basketball team decisively beat the Round Top-Carmine Cubs on the road on Friday night, 64-32. This is a good sign for North Zulch with District matchups just around the corner.
Bulldogs’ head coach David Graves was excited by the win, and said, “The game went great. The boys played well with the game plan.”
Graves said, “I thought all seniors like Cole Weaver, Gerhart Wiese, Michael Harris, Tyler Sanchez, and J.P. O’Neal did a great job of staying focused. That was a good step in the right direction before we get ready for the district opener against Burton next week.”
The North Zulch boys defended the rim effectively, and they passed well to spread the Cubs defense.
The seniors are not the only ones that are having success on the court. The underclassmen are gaining experience in the system.
When discussing the younger players, Graves had a positive review, “The underclassmen took the mindset of when on the floor the game plan must still be executed.”
The Bulldogs leading scorer was Gerhart Wiese with 22 points.
The Bulldogs are 7-10 on the season with district starting next week. Coach graves has said, “It is not about the regular season, but what we do in district.”
The next two games for the Bulldogs will be on the road against Burton and Somerville High Schools. Both teams are district rivals. The Bulldogs will host Snook Jan. 19.
