Wounded Warrior Banquet

The annual Wounded Warrior Banquet is set for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Walker County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $50 per person and $350 for a table of eight, and can be purchased at Henson Motor Company or Alan Tinsley Title Company. The guest speaker is Chad Robichaux, founder and president of Mighty Oaks Warrior Programs.

Wine and Cheese Event

A free wine and cheese event is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 26 at The Physicians Centre Hospital, 3131 University Drive East, Bryan. Computer Recycling

A computer recycling event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Madisonville City Hall, 210 West Cottonwood St. Accepted items include servers, desktop PCs, network equipment, cell phones, routers, hubs, UPS batteries, plotters, cables, wires, scrap metal, circuit boards and more. The event is sponsored by the City of Madisonville.

42 Tournament

NAACP Meeting

The Madison County NAACP Chapter 6193 meets every third Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. at the Madisonville Senior Community Center, located on Amos Street. For the month of January, the NAACP will meet on Jan. 28, which is the fourth Saturday of the month.

Holistic Fair

A nonprofit holistic fair for body, mind and spirit is set for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Brazos Center in Bryan. This is in an effort to bring together practitioners, modalities, service and products of non-traditional and complimentary healing practices represented in Bryan and College Station.

Kevin Brady Office Hours

Congressman Kevin Brady’s Huntsville and Conroe district offices are open to assist constituents Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Congressman’s office also has additional office hours in Madison County as an convenience for those who need assistance closer to home.

Food Drive

The Super Bowl of Caring Food Drive, hosted by Boy Scout Troop 191, will be accepting food from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Madisonville Fire Station. All donations stay local.

NZFD Chili Cook-off

The North Zulch Volunteer Fire Department is holding its first chili cook-off from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the fire department. Cost is $50 per entry, with a $10 addition for a bean entry. Vendors are welcome for a $25 set-up fee. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places and taster’s choice. Midway VFD Steak Dinner and Dance

The Midway Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual steak dinner and dance on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Midway Fire Station. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. and the meal will include a large T-bone steak, baked potato with all the trimmings, green beans, drink and dessert. Junk Hippy Event

Junk Hippy is hosting an event from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Brazos County Expo in Bryan. Admission is only $5 at the door, with kids 13 and under free. Head Start

Brazos Valley Community Action Agency is accepting applications for its Head Start program for the current school year.

Head Start is a preschool program that provides comprehensive educational social services to eligible children. It provides appropriate educational curriculum and other services to help with everyday needs.

Head Start, located at 901B Trinity, is open from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the center is open for children from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

To register, parents/ guardians must provide proof of income for the past 12 months, the child’s birth certificate, an immunization record, insurance cards and a photo ID for the parent.

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts group meets the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Rancho Viejo. Good fellowship, a potluck meal and a sharing time are scheduled for each meeting. A wide variety of art forms are enjoyed and encouraged, such as needlework, bead art, soap making, painting, leatherwork and building miniature houses.

Kruzin’ Eagles

The Kruzin’ Eagles Riding Group meets at 10 a.m. the first Saturday of each month at the Madisonville Fire Station, then goes for a ride. There is a monthly potluck supper.
