Journey Through Bethlehem

On Dec. 2 and 3, many of the churches in Huntsville will again come together for their presentation of Bethlehem on the night Jesus was born. There will be many shops to explore such as the bread shop, the bricklayer's shop, the basket weaving shop and fish market.  There will be a wedding feast with dancing. Before you enter the city, there will be a heavenly host of angels supplied by local choirs. Bring your family to enjoy this event Friday night and Saturday night at the Walker County Fairgrounds from 6 to 9 p.m., admission will be $1. Both nights Spanish translators and ASL signers will be available.

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

The Capt. John McAdams Chapter will honor all military veterans at the annual Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 in the Madison County Courthouse Annex on the south side of the Madisonville Square. Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony honoring all veterans on the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor by Japan.

Chili Contest

The Madison County Chamber of Commerce Chili Contest is set for Dec. 8 at the Truman Kimbro Center. Judging starts at 10 a.m., and the event is open to the public at 11 a.m. Cost is $5 for a bowl of chili. Entry form and fee deadline is Nov. 30; teams can enter for $20 which includes a table and electricity. Cash awards will be given for first, second and third places. Watershed Quality Meeting

The Texas Water Resources Institute, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board are hosting a public meeting Dec. 8 for anyone interested in improving and protecting water quality in the Navasota River and its watershed downstream of Lake Limestone. Lake View Anniversary Celebration

The Lake View Baptist Church invites the public to its annual church anniversary on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 3 p.m. at 416 Short St., Madisonville. Special guests will be Rev. Gaddy and the True Vine Baptist Church of Bryan. Dinner will be served following the program.

Texas Water Resources Meeting

The Texas Water Resources Institute is hosting a meeting from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 15 for anyone interested in improving and protecting the Lavaca River Watershed. The free meeting will be held at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Office in Jackson County, 411 N. Wells St., Edna. The meeting is the second in a series of meetings with stakeholders to develop strategies needed to address water quality impairments in the watershed. ‘Getting Ready for Christmas’ Lunch

GED, ESL and citizenship classes are being held at Madisonville Adult Learning Center, 714 Bacon St., Madisonville. Head Start

Brazos Valley Community Action Agency is accepting applications for its Head Start program for the current school year.

Head Start is a preschool program that provides comprehensive educational social services to eligible children. It provides appropriate educational curriculum and other services to help with everyday needs.

Head Start, located at 901B Trinity, is open from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the center is open for children from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

To register, parents/ guardians must provide proof of income for the past 12 months, the child’s birth certificate, an immunization record, insurance cards and a photo ID for the parent.

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts group meets the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Rancho Viejo. Good fellowship, a potluck meal and a sharing time are scheduled for each meeting. A wide variety of art forms are enjoyed and encouraged, such as needlework, bead art, soap making, painting, leatherwork and building miniature houses.


The Woodmen Lodge meets at 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at the Madisonville Volunteer Fire Station.

Kruzin’ Eagles

The Kruzin’ Eagles Riding Group meets at 10 a.m. the first Saturday of each month at the Madisonville Fire Station, then goes for a ride. There is a monthly potluck supper.
