After guiding the Madisonville Lady Mustangs to a 29-4 season and a birth to the 4A regional championship game, head coach Shana Taylor received the 2017 Dean Weese Outstanding Coach award by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches last week.
“It’s an outstanding honor for an outstanding lady and coach,” said Madisonville Athletic Director Rusty Nail.
Taylor, who just completed her tenth season as head coach of the Lady Mustangs, has led Madisonville to eight district championships in her tenure.
“It was a very well deserved award," said Lady Mustangs' assistant coach Sheldon Moor. "Coach Taylor exemplifies what hard work, dedication and love is, on a daily basis," Moor continued.
“[Coach] Taylor's success this season was not just a flash in a pan. She has the utmost respect from all of her players because she demands them to strive for perfection in all that they do, on and off the court. It was a pleasure and a joy to get to experience this season with her and learn from her wealth of knowledge."
Taylor was awarded the honor beating out finalists, Clay Barnett of Leveland, Barry Gill of Bullard and Fredricksburg head coach, Carrie Grona.
