Madisonville Athletic Director and girls head basketball coach Shana Taylor was named Coach of the Year in District 18-4A for her leadership of the Lady Mustangs’ basketball team, and several players also were recognized.

Senior Tra’dayja Smith was named Most Valuable Player and senior Tyana Brown was named Defensive Most Valuable Player.

Senior Lexi Leveston and junior Shakayla Burns were named first team All-District, while senior Zanavia Lewis received second team honors. Brown, Lewis and Smith were all named to the Academic All-District Team.

“These young ladies were passionate and spirited about the game that they loved and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment that we shared this season,” said Taylor.

“As the season progressed, this team took on a personality all its own. They were motivated and driven to do great things in practice and games. As a coach, I couldn’t ask for much more. These ladies lead our Lady Mustang program with class and dignity for four years and have left an indelible mark of excellence on our program for all of those who aspire to be a Lady Mustang.”
