NORTH ZULCH — Superintendent Alan Andrus called for a community meeting at the monthly North Zulch ISD school board meeting on Thursday night. The community meeting will take place this upcoming Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the North Zulch High School Cafeteria and focus on a variety of topics.

“It’s an informational meeting,” said Alan Andrus. “It gives the community an opportunity to see what we have planned as well as ask questions. We’re certainly excited to hear from everyone.”

Superintendent Andrus will run the meeting along with his wife and curriculum director Lea Ann Andrus. They will discuss changes in the school’s policy and procedures, accountability and preliminary testing results for the upcoming academic year as well as the curriculum. Those who attend the meeting will have a chance to have their voices heard at the conclusion with a question and answer portion.

“We want to give the parents a chance to hear our overall vision,” said Lea Ann Andrus. “This is an opportunity for the community to see what’s changing and what will stay the same as a result of our research.”

The superintendent and curriculum director are now beginning their work at North Zulch ISD and previously worked at West Hardin CCISD. They are already familiar with the community from a personal standpoint.

“A lot of the parents know what we’re about as people,” said Lea Ann Andrus. “We want to give them a chance to see how we operate professionally. We will inform them of the changes we made at West Hardin as well as some of the changes we plan to bring to North Zulch.”

The school board meetings tend to be rather light during the summer months. Things will certainly pick up during their next meeting, which is scheduled for Aug. 10. The staff will return to begin work for the new school year on Aug. 21 and the students will return to officially start the 2017-18 academic year on Aug. 28.
