The annual Iola Coon Hunt will occur Jan. 11-13. This PKC-sanctioned event will be held at the Iola Volunteer Fire Department, 23574 Brazos Road. Flame-grilled steaks and hamburgers with French fries or a baked potato will be served all three nights. Back by popular demand on Saturday night only will be Southern-fried catfish with beans and coleslaw. There will be fresh baked goods available for desert. This is a fundraiser for the Iola FFA and proceeds will go toward student scholarships.
•With winter here along comes many viruses and sicknesses. If your child has been or is currently sick, please keep them home. The rule is 24 hours fever-free. The school has taken extra precautions of spraying disinfectants several times a day but they need your help to keep all the students and staff healthy.
•On Jan. 13, there will be a concert series at Main Street Market. The concert will start at 7 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and will end at 11 p.m.
Main Street Market is hosting a free concert featuring two different musical acts for your entertainment. The series will start out the evening with Brea and Daniel. They are an engaged couple who have been singing since they were both 7 years old. This musical duo are a fabulous mix of pop and folk.
The featured entertainment will be Austin Upchurch. He is a singer/songwriter from Godley. Upchurch has been influenced by numerous genres and through that has created a beautiful blend of Red Dirt music. Armed with a mix of cover songs old and new, as well as originals, you are sure to find a tune to sing along with. No children younger than a freshman in high school will be permitted.
Concession foods, sodas, water, homemade desserts and coffee will be available for purchase. This event is BYOB; no underage drinking will be tolerated and IDs can be checked at any time.
•Junior varsity and varsity boys and girls will host Snook on Jan. 12. The girls will begin at 4 p.m. and the boys will start at 5 p.m.
