The Madison County Commissioner’s Court on Monday heard a presentation on the county’s recent audit, which showed only minor items that needed to be changed.
Dianne Sollock of Davis, Heinemann & Co. of Huntsville told commissioners that overall, the audit was clear, that there were no issues compiling the information, and that there were no disagreements with county personnel regarding audit practices.
Two minor items require change, Sollock said:
•The original copies of grant awards and contracts should be stored in the County Judge’s Office, as auditors were unable to locate several grant contracts.
•A physical inventory of assets worth more than $5,000 need to be done to provide a more accurate record of depreciable assets.
Sollock said the county did a good job of keeping expenditures under budget while revenues either met or exceeded budgeted amounts.
The county did show one line item — capital improvements — that showed a negative fund balance, which auditors are required to report. However, Sollock said regular reviews of balances should correct the problem.
The county will approve the audit findings at its next meeting.
In other business, the county:
•approved converting one handicapped parking space in the rear of the County Annex to a spot reserved for prisoner transport, provided that the county still meets any requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act;
•reappointed County Judge C.E. McDaniel Jr. and Madisonville Mayor Bill Parten as representatives to the Brazos Valley Council of Governments; and
•approved changes to the county’s security policy to comply with new requirements.
