County now has 55 confirmed cases of coronavirus

Update: Madison County officials said Thursday that the Texas Department of State Health Services now reports 55 confirmed cases -- and reiterated the 21 active cases -- in the county.
 
In an alert from the Emergency Management department, officials said "DSHS has undergone a database upgrade over the weekend and has sent notification to county officials that we could see some fluctuation in our case numbers while they strive to enter backlogged data into the new system. "
 
The DSHS had previously said Madison County had 75 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 21 of those cases active.

The state agency last updated their online dashboard late Wednesday.  There are still no reported fatalities for the county.

Madison County and Texas have seen large numbers of newly reported cases in recent days.  In Wednesday’s update, the DSHS reported 9,979 new daily cases, down just slightly from the record 10,028 the day before.

There have been 220,564 confirmed cases of the virus in Texas, and there an estimated 104,467 active cases in the state.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice repots 25 active cases among prisoners in the Ferguson Unit, and 27 employee active cases.

The Madisonville Lions Club will pass out complimentary face masks from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday with curbside pickup at the Truman Kimbro Center.
