Lt. Col. (Ret.) David Hoyt Huffines Jr. 88 of Midway, passed away on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, in Madisonville, surrounded by his family and friends. A celebration of David’s life is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Elwood Baptist Church, with Glenn Connor and Sonny Rice officiating.
David was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Abilene, to David and Nona Fae Huffines Sr. David was a career Air Force Officer, serving in the Korean War, The Vietnam War, and consulting in the Gulf War. He was honorably discharged by The United States Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel having received both a Meritorious Service Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal. In addition, David worked in the oil and gas industry, received a bachelor’s degree in Business and Education, earned a permanent teaching certification, a real estate license, a pilot’s license, started his own company, retired from the Internal Revenue Service, and retired again from Edwards County Sheriff’s Department. He hated being idle.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Wayne Huffines; and his daughter, Debbie Huffines Scott. He is survived by his wife, Cecelia (Marks) Huffines; his daughter, Julya Hoover Rebstock and her husband Tre’; and his grandchildren, Kathleen (Katie) Huffines, Zachary Rebstock and Caleb Rebstock.
