Boy Scout Troop 191 continues to develop good citizens by producing yet another young man on his trek to becoming an Eagle Scout.
Ben Tedder made progress on completing his Eagle Scout project on Saturday, April 29, as he, several members of his troop, and his Scout Masters built and installed benches along the walking trail of Lake Madison Park in Madisonville, Texas. In the near future, they will be returning to complete the project by water sealing the benches and landscaping around them.
“I chose building and installing benches as my Eagle Scout project because I wanted to encourage those with breathing problems or other disabilities to get outside and exercise,” says Tedder.
He goes on to say that, “By providing a place to sit and take a break along the walking trail, I hope more people will start to walk the trail and be able to build strength and endurance to increase their health.”
Tedder is fourteen years old and began his career in Troop 191 in the Second Grade. He enjoys all the different life skills that participating in Boy Scouts has taught him. His favorite badge to acquire was the Canoeing Badge, in which, he was able to canoe down the Brazos River at Worth Ranch.
Worth Ranch, known as “The Big Adventure”, is one of America’s oldest traditional Scouting programs, located sixty miles west of Fort Worth on the Brazos River at the base of Kyle Mountain. They offer climbing and rappelling on the cliffs, fishing, rowing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, swimming and more.
Tedder says, “Without the help of my Scoutmasters and our community, I would not have been able to become an Eagle Scout. It is really rewarding to be able to say that I’ve done something important.”
Tedder loves to play the piano and enjoys electronics. He is still in the process of deciding what he will choose as a career path in the future.
Community Sponsors helping to fund the installation of the benches are: Doug Holly, Bill Parten and the Madisonville City Council; William and Jennifer Totten – Madisonville Vet Clinic; Jeb and Becky Blair – J&B Propane; Madisonville Post 84 American Legion, and Bobby and Debra Drake of Drakes Service Center.
