Elvia Torres, 40, of Madisonville, passed away on March 25, 2016, in Houston, following a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Madisonville. The Rev. Michael Barone will officiate the service, and interment will follow in Madisonville Cemetery. A public visitation will take place at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Monday, March 28, from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary service at 7 p.m.
Elvia Torres was born on March 7, 1976, in Mexico to Ubaldo Torres and Maria T. Herrera. For the past 21 years, she had lived in Madisonville and worked as a harvesting foreman for Monterey Mushrooms. Elvia loved her job and was a very devoted employee. She was a very caring and loving person and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Elvia was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, J. Trinidad Herrera and Maria Carmen Aldaba and paternal grandparents, Jesus Torres and Bernadina de la Fuente. Surviving family include parents, Ubaldo Torres and Maria T. Herrera of Madisonville; and siblings, Leoncio Torres and wife, Maria L. Castaneda, Arley Torres, Jesus Torres and wife, Maria R. Carrillo, Juan Torres, Helen Torres and Amy Torres, all of Madisonville. Elvia is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
