Event time changes for Madison County Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Madison County is scheduled for April 22, 2017 at the Madison County Fairgrounds. The Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, we celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change.

In an effort to engage the community, the decision to shorten the event’s hours in 2017 has been made. Instead of going from 10 am – 10 pm as in years past, this year’s event will be from 4 pm – 10 pm.

“Nowhere else can you make the greatest impact in the fight to end cancer than when you volunteer, raise awareness, and funds for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life,” said Beth Anne Rhyne, American Cancer Society Staff Partner. “We rely on the support of volunteers and the community to help make the Madison County event a success. We know that there are a lot of things going on during the spring in Madisonville. Based on feedback from key partners and the community, we have decided to shorten the event to try to give people an opportunity to participate in more of the things going on in town. We hope that this change will encourage people to come out after other events and commitments have ended in the area.”

Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations. During Relay For Life events, members of each team take turns walking or running around the track or path. Teams participate in fundraising in the months leading up to the event.
