Fire department to hold cook-off


The fifth annual Iola Volunteer Fire Department benefit and Barbecue cookoff is right around the corner on March 9 and 10. This will take place at the Iola Volunteer Fire Department, 23574 Brazos St. There will be live auctions and live music and dance.

The entry fee is $185 for the cookoff for meat category — brisket, chicken, and pork spare ribs, and there is a $3,500 cash payout. The cash payout is based on the entry of 25 teams. There is a $20 for each side category with a 50 percent payout for first place beans and open class (meat).

•Spring break will be March 10-18.

•The high school One Act play will be March 5 at Rudder High School in Bryan.

•Baseball caps are for sale for $20 each in the High School office.

•Wednesday Feb. 28, there will be a UIL High School band contest at Groesbeck High school.

•There will be an Anderson/Iola baseball tournament from March 1 through March 3.

There will be a high school Track meet in Iola on March 1 and March 2 from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. both nights.

There will be a high school track meet in North Zulch on March 5 from 3:30 p.m. till 10 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs will face off against Snook on March 6 at 6 p.m.

Iola baseball will host St. Joseph on March 6 from 6-9 p.m.
