Firefighter dies in car wreck

Posted

Madisonville Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter Cory Heidler died in a single car accident in Washington County early Saturday, the MVFD announced via Facebook. He was 39.

A funeral procession will be held for Heidler at 2 p.m. Thursday. It will begin at Madisonville Christian Fellowship and conclude at the Madisonville City Cemetery along Highway 21. The MVFD encourages residents to honor Heidler by lining the sides of Highway 21 during the procession, according to Madisonville City Manager Camilla Viator.

Heidler served as a member of the MVFD for 15 years and leaves behind two young daughters, his mother and his sister.

“(Heidler) was an excellent firefighter, mentor and father,” said the MVFD's Saturday Facebook post, which accompanied two pictures of Heidler. “Please keep Cory’s family, friends and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers.”

Heidler was also a mechanic at the Henson Motor Company in Madisonville.
