Garry Fredrick Swonke, 68, of Madisonville, passed away on March 24, 2016, in Bryan.
Garry Fredrick Swonke was born on Feb. 29, 1948, in Cleveland, to Alfret Paul and Pearl (Nicol) Swonke. He served his country in the U.S. Army as an engineer. Mr. Swonke worked as an air conditioning specialist and in the communications industry. He also took care of maintenance for a number of buildings. Mr. Swonke enjoyed deer and dove hunting, as well as motorcycle riding, boating and trail riding. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He had been a resident of Madisonville since 1986, coming from the Spring area. Mr. Swonke was a Catholic.
Mr. Swonke was preceded in death by his father and sister, Barbara Jean. He is survived by his mother, Pearl Swonke of Iola; sons, Greg (Lori) Swonke of Carmine and Tim (Ginny) Swonke of Madisonville; daughter, Nori (Wade) Rhodes of Centerville; brothers, Ace Swonke of Industry, Pete Swonke of Taylor, Charlie Swonke of New Caney, Steve Swonke of Huntsville and Spud Swonke of Trinity; and sisters, Gloria Ann Barron of The Woodlands and Carolyn Barron of Willis. Mr. Swonke is also survived by grandchildren, Ryan and Tanner Rhodes, Timothy Conner and Payton Swonke.
A rosary service was held Saturday, March 26, at Madisonville Funeral Home, with a visitation prior. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday March 28, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Barone presiding. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Junior Swonke, Daniel Kelley, Kenneth Hooper, Jared Fox, Michal Barron, Andy Hoffman, Jody Navarro and Harvey Hinojosa.
