Large crowds didn’t flock to the Truman Kimbro Center in downtown Madisonville on Saturday, but those who showed were offered an opportunity they couldn’t pass up.
Representatives with Enroll Brazos Valley spent four hours meeting with residents about their health insurance plan, which is available to residents in the seven-county Brazos Valley Council of Governments region.
Kate Powell, lead marketplace navigator for BVCOG, said sign-up is fairly simple – and those who didn’t make it on Saturday can still enroll via the website at www.enrollbrazosvalley.org. She was not discouraged by the low turnout over the weekend.
“It takes an average of seven contacts before one person enrolls,” Powell said. “This is an area where we have had a lot of people who have called and want more information or to sign up. It’s a hike to Bryan, so we come to them. Rural areas are fairly uninsured.”
Open enrollment ends Jan. 31 for 2016 health insurance coverage.
