Hundreds flock to jet ski competition

Hundreds gathered at Lake Madison over the weekend for an annual jetski racing event.

Promoters Marisa and Tim Hutchison and Heath and Hunter Hoekstra, owners of Texas H20 Personal Watercraft Racing, facilitated the event, which was recruited by Madisonville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Thom Jones six years ago.

About 30 jetski experts competed in the race, but many attended as spectators and several camped out at the lake and patronized local restaurants and businesses.

Marisa Hutchison said she met her husband Tim at a jetski race seven years ago and they took over promotions in order “to keep the sport going.”

The company recently held an event in Baytown and has plans for an August race in Somerville. Although this weekend’s race was Texas H20’s inaugural event in Madisonville, the racers have been to the local lake in prior years with a different host company.

“It’s so friendly here,” Marisa Hutchison said. “That’s what everyone has been commenting on.”

Hutchison added that the event is fiercely competitive, family-friendly and drama-free.

“We’re all about safety and family,” she said.
