Jimmy Amundson


Funeral services for Jimmy O. Amundson, 73, of Madisonville, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville. Jim Bob Gunnels will officiate, and a eulogy will be given by Don Grooms and Terry Amundson. Interment will follow in the Allphin Cemetery in rural Madison County. Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at the funeral home.

Jimmy O. Amundson was born on May 18, 1943 in Houston, Texas to Owen Jodie and Jessie Dorine (Poindexter) Amundson. He was self-employed and had worked as a homebuilder since 1964. Jimmy was a member of the American Legion and served as the chaplain at one time. Jimmy enjoyed fishing whenever he was able. He was a very good father. His favorite holiday with his family was Christmas Eve, which stemmed from great memories of his own childhood. Jimmy was a charitable and generous man and had a great sense of humor. He touched many people’s lives and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Jimmy had lived in Madisonville since 1982, coming from Houston, and was a member of the Pearson Chapel Baptist Church. He passed away Monday, May 23, 2016, at his home. Jimmy was preceded in death by both of his parents; brothers, Ronnie and Billy Joe Amundson; and a sister, Shirley Phillips.

Surviving family members include sons, Jimmy Lee (Lisa) Amundson and Terry (Kim) Amundson, all of Leona; daughter, Tracy (Bruce) Downs of LaPorte; sisters, Judy Moneypenny of Deer Park and Donna Cole of Houston; fiancé, Edith Van Horne of Pearson Chapel; step-daughters, Tammy, Teresa and Tracy; and grandchildren, Cody Amundson, Stephanie Donaho, Jason Amundson, Justin Marcoux and Peyton Downs. Jimmy is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Millstid, Don Grooms, Luis Benavides, Jason Amundson, Michael Donaho, Justin Marcoux, Bob Owens, Justin Willingham and Josh Gunnels.

Madisonville Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
