John Wesley “Buddy” Goodrum, 92, passed away Sept. 29, 2017, in Savannah, Ga., after a long illness.
He was born June 24, 1925, in Jozey, and was one of 10 children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine Bell Goodrum; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Goodrum Sr.; and four sisters and one brother.
He is survived by brothers Dude, Sonny and Wayne Goodrum, all of Madisonville; a sister, Mozelle Hutcherson of Houston; two sons, J. Ashley Goodrum (Pam) of Augusta, Ga., and D.L. Goodrum; a daughter, Shila Goodrum Mallard (Larry) of Raleigh, N.C.; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Buddy was career Army, serving 26 years. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded three Purple Hearts during his time in service.
A private graveside memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Hinesville, Ga., cemetery. Chaplain Collins from Fort Stewart, Ga., officiated. Burial was with full military honors.
