Kathleen Larkin

A memorial service will be held for Kathleen Elaine Billings Larkin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at the Graeber Road Church of Christ at 1910 Graeber Road, in Rosenberg. The memorial service will be led by Dan Leaf of Fort Worth.

Kathy was born Oct. 20, 1953, in Kerrville, to Raymond Noel and Margaret Arlene Meek Billings. She passed away on Jan. 10, 2016, in Houston. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

Kathy grew up in multiple locations in Texas, as her family moved relocated with her father’s ministry in Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Rosebud, Rosenberg, Laredo, Devine, Bertram and Madisonville.

Following her graduation from Madisonville High School in 1971, Kathy continued working at Crossley Office Supply and the Madisonville Meteor in Madisonville.

On Aug. 6, 1971, she married Kenneth Jerry McMahon. They lived in North Zulch and Kathy remained working at the Madisonville Meteor. After a couple of years they moved to Bryan, and Kathy worked at the Bryan Eagle newspaper before becoming a stay-at-home mother to their two children, Jeremy Scott McMahon and Kelli Erin McMahon Jenkins. As the children grew older, the family returned to North Zulch and she again worked at the Madisonville Meteor for a short time.

After a divorce in late 1997, Kathy moved to Bryan and held several positions at Texas A&M University including administrative assistant in the College of Architecture’s Center for Housing and Urban Development Colonias Program and the Department of Multicultural Services.

On Dec. 18, 2004, Kathy married Michael Larkin and they made their home in Sugar Land. Kathy worked for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Houston.

Kathy’s grandchildren were the lights of her life; she doted on them at any opportunity and rarely did a conversation with her not contain at least some mention of them.

Kathy was active in many church activities, from Ladies’ Bible Class to Vacation Bible School. At the time of her death she was attending the Graeber Road Church of Christ in Rosenberg, but had previously been a member of the Central Church of Christ in Bryan, North Zulch Church of Christ, and A&M Church of Christ in College Station.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Michael Larkin of Sugar Land; one daughter, Kelli Erin Jenkins of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Monica McMahon, of Goliad; a brother, Thom Billings of Austin; two grandsons, Mabry McMahon of Goliad and Sterling Eugene Jenkins III of Bryan; two granddaughters, Josephine McMahon of Goliad, and Contessa Skye Jenkins of Bryan; numerous friends; and a host of church family.
