Ladies split two games

The Groesbeck Lady Goats were no match for Madisonville on Jan. 26, as the Lady Mustangs handily defeated them, 44-10. The Lady Mustangs came up short, however, in an away game at Mexia on Friday, 46-43.

The team, now 19-10, is well prepared for next year as its team leaders are juniors Lexi Leveston, Tra’Dayja Smith, Tyana Brown and Zanavia Manning. Sophomore Latayvia Byrd also has had a strong season.

Leveston had an impressive 19 rebounds in the Mexia game, while Smith led in scoring with 13 points.

The Lady Mustangs are raising money through a gofundme account for a trip to compete in a tournament in Orlando in December. The money raised will be used for tournament fees, transportation, food and lodging, according to the Web page at https://www.gofundme.com/rtfyv964.

“This will be a first for our program and a life-changing experience for most of our athletes,” Head Coach Shana Taylor said. “These gifted athletes get it done on the court and in the classroom as the majority of the team garner academic all-district awards each year.”
