For a half, defense was able to keep the North Zulch girls in Friday night’s basketball contest with Somerville. But once the Yeguas stepped up the pressure and hit a few shots, the Bulldogs had no answers, falling 57-27 on the road.
North Zulch trailed 16-1 after a quarter, but the defense kept the Bulldogs in the game as North Zulch went into the half trailing 29-9. After leading by 20 at the half, Somerville upped their offense and defense. The Yeguas picked up North Zulch full court and started hitting shots, outscoring the Bulldogs 28-18 in the second half.
While the Lady Bulldogs struggled scoring points in the first three quarters their offense picked up late in the game, with their highest scoring total coming in the final period of action. But it was too little too late, as North Zulch fell to Somerville. With the loss the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 7-14 on the season.
