Lady Bulldogs undefeated in district play

The North Zulch Lady Bulldogs are on an unstoppable, undefeated winning streak, racking up wins over Calvert and Kennard last week.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Calvert, 64-57, but the win didn’t come easy, according to Head Coach Marshall Earnhart.

“We were glad to get out of there with a win,” Earnhart said. “My girls are definitely overcomers and rise to the occasion when asked.”

The coach noted that there was some controversy over the score and foul count.

“The scorekeeper missed six of our points and one of the [Calvert] players ended up with eight fouls before she was finally fouled out,” Earnhart said. “We were told that their book was the official book.”

But the Lady Bulldogs still got the W and also stomped Richards earlier in the week, 52-4.

The ladies played at Kennard on Tuesday. Bi-district play begins Feb. 15.

The North Zulch Bulldogs are now 15-11 overall and 6-3 in district after splitting a pair of games last week.

The Bulldogs got schooled by Calvert on Friday, losing 96-61.

“I thought our team played well,” said Head Coach David Graves. “We scored 60 points at Calvert and it’s a hard place to play. It was loud and crazy as always. We just could not answer to all their threes.”

But the Bulldogs had a huge win on Feb. 2 vs. Richards, outscoring the Panthers, 76-36.

The team traveled to Kennard on Tuesday and plays at Oakwood on Friday. A Feb. 16 home game vs. Centerville is the last scheduled competition before playoffs.

“Now we have to change our mindset and make a three-game run for a berth to the playoffs,” Graves said. “I think we are the second-place team at this point. We just have to be mentally tough on the road.”
