The Madisonville Mustangs volleyball team won last Tuesday’s home conference match against the Mexia Black Cats, 3-2.
Madisonville lost the first set 25-21 but stormed back to win a close second set 25-22, before losing in the third 26-24. The Lady Mustangs finally found their grove winning the match in the final two sets 25-22, 18-16.
The Mustangs’ win over the Black Cats was a total team effort as seniors Tyana Brown, Brianne McCloud, Quincey Surface, Tra’ Dayja Smith and Lexi Leveston along with juniors Sha’Kayla Burns and Kaylee Reynolds all led the team in blocks and digs with five each. Leveston led in kills with nine while Surface and Brown added seven each.
Madisonville continued their strong play on the road in Fairfield as they faced the Eagles in a 4A Region III District 18 game. The Lady Mustangs defeated the Eagles by a score of 3-2 bringing their overall record to 23-14 on the season. The Mustangs and Eagles alternated set victories with Fairfield winning the first set 25-21 and the Mustangs winning the second 25-22. The Eagles bounced back winning the third set 26-24, but the Lady Mustangs won the final two sets 25-22, 18-16.
“We are playing strong,” said Head Coach Melissa Padgett.
The Lady Mustangs have now won their last three games and look to extend that winning streak to four as they host the Iola Bulldogs on Friday.
